
ZEPHYRS DEFEAT TRAPPERS 8 TO 4
Z's win third in a row
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Royce Huffman and Colin Porter had two RBI apiece to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs past the Edmonton Trappers, 8-4 on Tuesday Night in Edmonton.
Huffman, who is 23-for-76 with 19 RBI over his last 20 games, delivered a first-inning, RBI single before producing a sacrifice fly in the second to give New Orleans a 4-0 lead. Porter laced a two-run single in the sixth inning three batters after an RBI double by John Buck. Dave Matranga finished with three hits and two runs scored for the Zephyrs, who won their third consecutive game to improve to 31-21.
Jared Fernandez (5-4) allowed three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win and Rob Stanifer was perfect over the final two innings to notch his third save. Val Pascucci clubbed his sixth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the sixth inning, for Edmonton.
Terrmel Sledge, who also produced an RBI fielder's choice, singled to extend his hitting streak to 11 games for the Trappers, who lost their fifth straight game. Tim Drew (0-6) gave up seven runs and 12 hits, fanning nine and walking one, over 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
