Albuquerque Starter Aaron Small Pitches Five Innings of No Hit Baseball
Metairie, LA – Aaron Small pitched 8 1/3 innings allowing two runs to lead the Albuquerque Istopoes (39-43) to a 3 to 2 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (48-34) on Saturday Night at Zephyr Field in front of 7,151. Small had a no hitter going into the sixth, until Kyle Logan lead off the inning with a single to right field. The game remained scoreless going into the eighth, but with some timely hits and one Zephyr error the Isotopes took the lead 3-0. The Zephyrs had a chance to mount a comeback, but with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Isotopes reliever Mike Judd struck out Jason Alfaro to end the game and kill the Zephyrs rally.
Albuquerque shortstop Wilson Valdez was 2-4 on the night and right fielder Abraham Nunez went 1-2 with an RBI. Zephyrs second baseman Royce Huffman went 1-4 with a 1RBI, but committed two errors in the field, one in the eighth that proved to be costly. Huffman has only played second base roughly twenty time in his professional baseball career.
