
REDBIRDS DEFEAT ZEPHYRS 7 TO 6

MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- Jason Bowers hit a walk-off homer as the Memphis Redbirds edged the New Orleans Zephyrs, 7-6 on Friday Night in Memphis.
Bowers clubbed his fifth homer of the year leading off the bottom of the ninth inning to deliver the victory. Bowers and Jon Nunnally hit consecutive RBI doubles and Dee Haynes ripped a run-scoring single in the seventh inning to give Memphis a 6-4 lead. Haynes, who finished with three hits and a run scored, opened the scoring for the Redbirds with an RBI double in the second inning. Mike Crudale (3-2) picked up the win despite allowing two runs and two hits over one inning for Memphis, which snapped a four-game losing streak.
Royce Huffman tied the score at 6-6 in the ninth inning for New Orleans with a two-run homer. Alan Zinter laced an RBI double and Jason Alfaro drove home a pair of runs with a two-bagger a batter to give the Zephyrs a 3-0, first-inning advantage. Kirk Bullinger (2-3) surrendered a run and a hit without retiring a batter in the ninth inning to take the loss for New Orleans, which dropped its fourth straight game.
