Astros Option RHP Backe to Zephyrs
June 4, 2004 - The Houston Astros optioned RHP Brandon Backe to the Zephyrs after adding right-hander Pete Munro via free agency.

The Houston Astros optioned RHP Brandon Backe to the Zephyrs after adding right-hander Pete Munro via free agency.

Backe was originally on the Zephyrs roster when the season began, but was called up to the Astros only two games into the season. For the Zephyrs, Backe pitched one inning, giving up one hit and and one run for a 9.00 ERA.

Backe has pitched 22 innings for the Astros this season, giving up 25 hits and 13 runs for a 5.32 ERA. He also struck out 15 batters.

The move comes on the heels of Astros left-hander Andy Pettitte going on the 15-day disabled list with a muscle strain in his left forearm.
